Sir: G. O. Jones asks what would Clement Attlee have said in response to Rupert Murdoch's remark about supporting Labour (letter, 10 August). I am sure the answer is: little or nothing.

Mr Attlee was famously laconic. And I remember him in an interview once remarking that 'a lion does not concern itself with flies'.
