Letter: Lamont: a tale of contradictions
Sir: The media have finally shot themselves in the foot with their absurd performance over Norman Lamont. For the past three months the press and television have been baying for Lamont's blood on the grounds that he has lost all political credibility.
Finally, John Major takes the decision to axe him - clearly against Lamont's wishes - and Lamont makes a miserable, naughty schoolboy's speech in Parliament and what do we get? Headlines and TV news that Major's leadership is in crisis because the man with previously no political credibility says a few miserable words.
