AS ONE OF your many lesbian readers, I was disgusted and hurt by the cartoon which appeared in your books section (Review, 14 August).
I am no fan of Jeanette Winterson's writing and feel that there is much scope for satirising her long-winded and self-important pronouncements regarding her own literary worth.
However, your cartoonist chose the cheapest and laziest option - to make a swipe at her on the grounds of her sexuality and to employ an unpleasant-looking stereotype of a lesbian as a kind of censor.
I'm sure you would not offend your black or Jewish readers by presenting similarly grotesque stereotypes.
