Sir: If Linda McCartney (letter, 2 December) is so sickened (and rightly so) by the re-emergence of real fur in the fashion world, why does she market vegetarian food products that have an uncanny resemblance, in both texture and taste, to meat?
Surely, the idea of vegetarianism, both as a promotion of a healthy lifestyle and as a response to the issues of animal welfare and animal rights, is to re-educate one's palate to enjoy the many alternatives to a carnivorous (or, more precisely, an omnivorous) diet. It is not making those sources, such as soya beans, taste as 'meaty' as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Love,
BEN OATES
