Letter: Little to be proud of
Sir: I was startled to read in John MacGregor's resignation letter ('Ministers make their last farewells', 21 July) claims that the governments in which he had served had raised our living standards and widened our horizons, and brought about the much wider spread of ownership and opportunity; and in securing Britain's future in Europe as a leading and constructive member of the European Union.
Leaving aside punctuation, I am scarcely alone in thinking that the issues raised are ones on which apologies only are in order.
Yours sincerely,
J. M. OLIVER
