'BICYCLE-RIDING royals' has become a phrase used to describe a possible new-look monarchy. It implies diminished status. Yet Cyclist magazine (Vol XXIV, No 1184) carried the following:
'Long live the King] That brief and strenuous prayer will assuredly rise at once to the lips of the wheel folk. For is not Edward VII, King of Great Britain and Ireland, of the Britons beyond the seas and Emperor of India, himself a cyclist?'
