Sir: The complaints prompted by the difficulties of viewing the paintings at the Vermeer exhibition echo something I have long felt about all major exhibitions. Why do the organisers insist on hanging works at head height, where only those closest to them can see them in toto? By raising the average height by 12 or 15 inches all but the largest canvases could be comfortably viewed by the great majority of visitors even on the most crowded days.
