Letter: Love and charity in Birmingham

Sir: So that's what is missing.

Sir Richard Knowles, leader of Birmingham City Council, says that 'Mother Teresa can bring to Birmingham what local authorities can't - love, prayer and charity' (' 'Silver I have not, I am sending my sisters' '; front page, 30 September).

Why can they not? What a difference it would make if at least they tried.
