Sir: Your story about Luton bordered on the absurd. The fact is the town has a rich multicultural tradition that is one of its many strengths.

Yes some racism exists as, sadly, it does everywhere. But if Caroline McGhie had cared to visit Luton over the recent carnival weekend, she would have seen a town at ease with itself enjoying its cultural diversity in a relaxed, trouble-free atmosphere.
