Sir: In recent decades, we have seen in the UK the destruction of major industries including: steel, shipbuilding, aircraft, mining, railway, motor car, electrical, fishing, clothing, textile, television, motion picture. It's not the pound that's in free fall, it's the country; and in free fall, you have to open your own parachute.

Yours faithfully,

TOM CONTI
