Letter: Messages of the Euro elections

Sir: While I am sure most people will agree with everything John Searle says in his letter of 14 June, the real message from the electorate was something far more subtle, yet poignant, than is thought.

I was one of the 33 per cent who, though with the gravest of misgivings, voted. By contrast, 67 per cent refused to vote. If that is not a referendum on Europe, what is?

'Get out of the EC and that right soon.' That is the message that was given.

Yours sincerely,

ALAN J. PAGE
