Sir: 'The reels could be screened randomly without audiences being any the wiser,' writes David Shipman of L'Annee Derniere a Marienbad (Speech Marks, 7 December).

Very true. It happened at the showing at the University of Leicester Film Society in the mid-Sixties, when the third and fourth reels were transposed. Only a few dedicated cineastes on the committee were disturbed, and then not much.
