Sir: Your leading article today ("A tonic for Westminster", 12 May) states that, had the proposals of the Nolan Committee been in force at the time, I would have had to wait longer than the 15 months I did wait after leaving Government to become chairman of Cable & Wireless. I wonder.
Over 85 per cent of Cable & Wireless's profits (at that time over 90 per cent) are generated overseas and my suspicion is that I would have had to wait less, rather than more.
Yours faithfully,
YOUNG
Executive Chairman
