Sir: Veronica Berry writes (letter, 13 February of 'an enterprising girl who had been severely injured in an explosion in a munitions factory in 1917' and who had devised the scheme for hiring out stools for those queueing for theatre seats. The girl in question was my mother, Mabel Lethbridge, otherwise known at the time as 'Peggy, the chair girl'.

An account of the project, and of its strange outcome, appears in her book Fortune Grass, still available in most public libraries.
