PERHAPS 'Cries and Whispers' (Review, 25 April) should listen to fewer whispers of the Chinese variety and heed a few more facts. 'Jack Hughes' alleges that leading American museums have not contributed to the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition at the Hayward Gallery.

Not so: all American museums with important O'Keeffe holdings (29 in total) have co-operated with our current show, which was initiated by the National Gallery of Art in Washington and co-

organised by the Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation.

Some paintings are indeed for sale (though not through us). This is scarcely surprising, a mere seven years after the artist's death.
