Sir: If there had been a pile-up resulting in injured jockeys and horses obstructing the Grand National course, what measures existed to halt or divert the runners? Whatever such measures may have been, they were obviously inadequate, even though the potential circumstances were more easily foreseeable than Saturday's events.
I shudder to think of the consequences had such a situation arisen.
