Sir: In his letter concerning Admiral Nelson, Stephen Howarth mentions that in 1801 Nelson was given permission to use his Italian title, Duke of Bronte.
There is an interesting sideline to this, in that a Yorkshire clergyman of the time, impressed by Nelson's exploits, changed his family name from Brunty to Bronte.
