Sir: Surely the Government's advisers should be complimented on their proposed action on the execution of the national curriculum.
It is difficult to comprehend how young children will be 'inhibited' in their expression by having to speak standard English. The pronunciation uttered by many so- called teachers and an alarming number of television presenters falls well below a properly educated standard.
I am left wondering whether some elements of the teaching profession are opposed to the use of good language because they have so significantly failed their responsibilities in the past.
