Sir: Your articles on general practice in the Independent Magazine (8 July) were largely accurate, except for one important fact.

The "new money", pounds 45m, for out-of-hours GP work is from hospital based services, not new to the NHS. This is one of the reasons that GPs voted against the latest proposals.
