Letter: North London burglars have been stung by Operation Bumblebee

I WAS puzzled by the reported statement from a 'spokesman for Commercial Union'.

He said: 'We believe that burglar alarms are a deterrent to the petty criminal, but there is no statistical evidence that premises protected in this way are less at risk.' If the overall risk is constant, but petty criminals are deterred, then it follows that installing an alarm makes it more likely that you will attract the attention of the professional thief.
