LETTER : Not a fit time to face the press

From Mr Barry Ferguson

Sir: What has happened to the English sense of fair play? Professional cricket captains, orchestral conductors - and many others - are drained mentally and physically by their performance in public. The last thing that should be expected of them afterwards is to face a press conference.

Could not the manager of the English cricket team, rather than Mike Atherton, deal with questions from the press - comprehensible or otherwise ("Atherton 'buffoon' gaffe makes bad day worse", 26 February)?

Yours sincerely,

Barry Ferguson
