Sir: The technique 'evolved' by John McCarthy and Jill Morrell for their book is not as novel as your diarist seems to think. Arthur Koestler and his wife, Cynthia, used it, each writing alternate chapters in their account of their life together, Stranger on the Square, published a year after their suicide in March 1983.
