WITH REFERENCE to the article by Rachel Borrill ('A testing time with the writers that nobody knows', 10 January) concerning the introduction of compulsory tests for 14-year-olds in English, you should be aware of what many practising teachers consider the main point of the debate. This is the first time that the curriculum is in direct control of central government. Teachers are being directed as to what to teach to which students and when.
