I Have cycled extensively in Holland. The difference in the cycling experience between there and here is marked, not merely because in Holland there is a nationwide network of cycle lanes and pathways. There is respect from cyclist and motorist alike for the other's entitlement to travel as they wish.
For cyclists to ignore red lights does nothing to further their cause, but neither does a car parked blocking a cycle lane do much for the motorists' argument. Until both sides adopt a less territorial, more conciliatory stance, little progress will be made.
