Sir: Your map (Analysis, 30 May) shows Chechnya as an independent state on the borders of Russia alongside such countries as Georgia, Armenia and Ukraine. The Chechen Republic is an integral part of the Russian Federation, the modality of status of which will be determined by the Federal Centre and the Chechen government by negotiations within the next five years.
