Letter: Parents offered choice of inequality and racism

HOW MARVELLOUS to see so many positive things being said about schools.

But let no one be led into thinking that your survey has any statistical validity. If, from 1,500 responses, you selected 350 schools that means that, even if all votes were cast for that 350, there would only have been an average of just over four votes per school. In fact the votes must have been spread over a great many schools so that, to get in, three or even two votes might have been enough. On that count it only takes one keen parent to ring up a friend and both to write in, for a school to get a commendation.
