OUR GOVERNMENT would be doing the health of the nation a big favour by tackling the Food and Drink Federation head-on ("Salt - the new drug", 1 August). Nothing short of prohibitive legislation will stop the FDF poisoning us for profit. It is often claimed that salt - disguised as "sodium" - is a "flavour-enhancer". Salt does nothing but taste of salt without which the FDF's products would be tasteless and unsellable, forcing the manufacturers to mend their ways.
