Sir: In "Trails of the Unexpected" (20 April), I read: "October 1996 marks the centenary of the death of Walthamstow's most famous son, poet, artist, designer, socialist and much else besides, William Morris."
Have you heard of William Penn, 1644-1718, born in Walthamstow, English Quaker? In 1681 he obtained a grant of land in America, in settlement of a debt owed by the king to his father, on which he established the colony of Pennsylvania as a refuge for the persecuted Quakers.
