Letter: Plenty of room at the top in Scotland

Sir: The illuminating letter from Mr A. Freeman ('Education, is there room at the top for working-class children?', 28 August) calls for a small but important qualification.

He is, I think, referring to the English working class.

A bright working-class child in Scotland, where education is far more respected, would be more likely to be encouraged to attend a university.

Yours faithfully,

R. L. PLACKETT
