Sir: You say (leading article, 4 January), apropros of the Kenyan elections, that 'it is hard to see how anything could at the same time be a direct yet imperfect reflection of the popular will'.

On the contrary, it is quite easy. Your phraseology admirably describes the outcome of the British general elections for at least the past 20 years, thanks to our corrupt electoral system.
