Letter: Police should drive the American way
YOUR item on bad driver behaviour in fog (Notebook, 27 December) reminded me of the technique I was told police used when freeways were first opened in the United States.
At holiday times, to curb reckless driving, police cars drove abreast along the lanes. We should adopt a similar system in Britain on those sections of the motorway affected by bad weather conditions, coupled perhaps with radio reports or information boards signalling the presence of a police convoy. It would be more effective and use less manpower than chasing blatant offenders. It might also persuade some of us to travel by train.
