AS AN East German I am disgusted with the way everything happening in the former GDR is now blamed on spending hours "on the pot" when we were children ("If only Adolf had worn Pampers...", 25 July). That a high rate of criminal attacks in the eastern part of Germany might be due to a high unemployment rate, disillusionment among teenagers etc is still being denied by the German government.
No one likes to admit that reunification has not worked out. "How can the Wessis ever be wrong? Let's just blame the Ossis" is the easy way out. Having spent most of my childhood on the pot, I at least learnt what teamwork and common sense are - two attributes that very often seem to be unknown in the West.
