Sir: The real case against much of the British press is not its intrusiveness but the way in which it encourages the public to avoid seriously addressing important issues by feeding it with a constant diet of trivia, sensationalism and prejudice posing as news.
No amount of legislation can change this situation but while it exists it must cast doubts on the ability of the British people to face up to and survive in the real world.
