Sir: Your correspondent W H Smith (Letters, 28 October) asks which two Conservative MPs we would select to hold on to their seats in the event of the British Tories sharing the fate of their Canadian brethren.

The answer has to be Hugh Dykes and Nicholas Budgen, so that even in their reduced state they can still entertain themselves and others by splitting at periodic intervals over Europe.

Yours faithfully,

NEIL SCARR
