YOU MAY care to draw a link between the perceived demise of manufacturing skill with the media image of the engineering profession, as typified by your description of those testing football bladders as 'engineers' ('Sublime for soccer', 12 June).

This would have been bad enough on the sports pages but its appearance in the business section leads me to perceive that your understanding of a primary foundation of our economy is extremely superficial.
