Letter: Put the Royals in their place
Sir: It is the right time for the Independent to report the behaviour of our so-called Royal Family when that behaviour affects the nation. It has become a nonsense that this increasingly large family should be supported by the state and pay no taxes.
It could gain the monarchy a great deal of respect if the Queen and the heir to the throne, only, received state support. That they should pay taxes as all their subjects do, is surely right and proper, and could give them a sincere affection, not felt at present by many.
Yours,
