Sir: I would like to come to the defence of Radio 3's new programmes, On Air and In Tune. For years I have been seriously addicted to Radio 3. Now, rather than having to cringe with embarrassment at its desperate efforts to please, at its mind-numbing chats between cronies of the musical world, its useless news summaries and its redundant travel reports, I have at last found the will to switch Radio 3 off, permanently. I'm cured; I have discovered the delight of silence. Thank you, Radio 3.

Yours faithfully,

DAVID FLEMING
