Letter: Redwood's passion

Sir: "If you can convince Parliament," John Redwood says, "in the teeth of strong opposition, then you have a good chance of convincing the nation." I quite agree. But what need has the Prime Minister, with his massive majority, to convince Parliament? All he needs to do is ensure that the Chief Whip can deliver enough docile lobby-fodder.

Under a proportional system, the Government would have about 300 of the 659 seats in the House. That would be a Parliament that needs convincing.
