Letter: Results that don't bear examination

Sir: I hope there will be a public inquiry into the disgraceful results in GCSE Latin, in which 92.3 per cent of candidates gained grades A-C. I understand from recent comments that this must be due to a ridiculously easy examination paper and lax marking.

Previously I had thought, navely, that the Latin results reflected the fact that the subject was, in the main, studied by the more able candidates.

Yours sincerely,
