Letter: Ripped jeans have no place in Britain

Sir: I read with delight James Fox's open letter to Mohamed Al Fayed and am posting it to my 20-year-old half-German grandson in Celle. He was refused entry to Harrods for carrying a very small rucksack. He is a handsome, tidy, polite boy: well spoken, though with a slight German accent. He was very disappointed not to visit the Food Hall, but was fortunately more amused than offended.

Yours sincerely,

MARY WITTON-DAVIES
