Letter: Rise of the super-class

Sir: Most parents want their children to have the best possible start in life. The moneyed classes have been able to send their children to the best private schools, give them the best materially, and provide the best social, political and economic networks. Now they will be able to give them the best genetically engineered body possible ("Designer baby fears after 50 screened births", 7 May).

We can expect a small group of super-people with altered genes to claim their right to rule because they are genetically superior and rich. I am certain that this new technology will be used to enhance social prejudices. How can the rest of society - the vast majority - ever compete?
