Sir: Despite the claims of recent news coverage, there is no proven causal relationship between sunbed use and skin cancer ("Sunbeds 'should carry health warnings' ", 19 May). Maximum levels of annual usage have already been defined in international agreement and embodied in British Standards, which the sunbed industry accepts. This results in a variable number of sessions per annum, depending upon the type of sunbed, skin type and the length of session. Sunbeds should always be used correctly, following the supplier's guidelines.
Yours faithfully
PETER CARVER
