Sir: I have been reading today's leading article 'A child's murder' (16 February), and thinking of 40 years ago when my own children were very young. In those days, most toddlers wore reins. When paying for goods in a shop, the reins were routinely looped over an arm, leaving both hands free to handle money and accept and pack the purchase in one's shopping bag. How sad it is that
using reins seems to be out of fashion.
