THE ROAD on which the snow-blower was photographed ('Scotland braves a no-drive zone', 17 January) is not the A9. The A9 is wider and better graded than the road in your picture, which is the A889, Dalwhinnie to Laggan.
Nor is the A9 (even 'usually') 'the first road in Scotland to block'. That handicap, most Scots would agree, is a three- road-race between The Lecht (A939, Cockbridge to Tomintoul); the Cabrach (A941, Rhynie to Dufftown); and Cairn o' Mount (B974, Brechin to Banchory), with the smart money going on The Lecht. Under normal winter conditions, I wouldn't expect Drumochter to come higher than fifth.
