Alan Watkins in his excellent commentary omits one question. Why did Labour leaders appoint Baroness Turner as spokeswoman on employment when it was known that she was on the board of a firm, Ian Greer Associates, giving donations mainly to Tory MPs at elections? How can Tony Blair and Ivor Richards say that such a position is not improper conduct and then dismiss her for giving a television interview?
There may be nothing illegal about the role of Baroness Turner but morally it is a disgrace to hold a position as employment spokeswoman while on the board of a firm giving donations to Tories who have supported bad working conditions and low wages for workers.
