Letter: Sensitive data and political belief
Sir: My attention has been drawn to an article by Leonard Doyle (18 November) on the draft EC directive on data protection. This article presents a travesty of the Direct Marketing Association's position.
The DMA welcomed the directive although we have reservations about some aspects of it, including the restriction it would place on publicly available data. We have never campaigned against the view that sensitive data may need special protection, though we do understand the concern that political parties have over the restrictions applicable to the processing of information on political beliefs.
Yours faithfully,
