Sir: In his article about the Whiteheads and their conviction for lying to the police, Paul Vallely states ("The whole truth: who needs it?" 23 May) that the lies were told about "what, everyone agreed, was a fairly trivial motoring accident". Speaking from experience, I can assure him that there is nothing trivial about riding a motor-cycle when a car driver collides with you.
