THE headline to Linda Grant's article certainly implies a North/South divide since in the North 'love' is a form of address used to both sexes. When I retired to Devon after 30-odd years in West Yorkshire I thought I might miss being addressed as 'love' by check-out operators, shop assistants, market traders etc. Never mind. 'M'dear' is just as nice.
