Sir: I write to congratulate you on John Arlidge's report (15 July) about the "Skye high" toll road bridge controversy. Since then, we directors of the Skye Boat Company have been overwhelmed by expressions and offers of support. Remarks such as "We will never use the bridge" or "We've resolved to use Glenelg or Mallaig in future, but now hope this will not be necessary" (because of our proposed private ferry) are among the many received, with donations to match, from regular visitors to Skye.
