Letter: Stars of symmetry

Sir: An item in your 'In Brief' section (10 June) mentions 'the 12 stars representing the national states of the European Union'. May I point out that the said 12 stars do not, and have never, represented the 12 states of the European Union. In fact, they are intended to represent symmetry and harmony; and the number of stars will remain at 12, no matter how many nations are members.

Yours sincerely,
